How to promote Etsy listings

There is tonnes of information out there about how marketing on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and other social media channels to promote your Etsy listing can help you to achieve a higher number of sales – These platforms are all great, and definitely need to have a place in your marketing strategy outside of Etsy, BUT today we are going to talk about promotional techniques that you can implement inside of Etsy which have a proven track record to skyrocket your sales.

These promotional strategies are really easy to implement yet people either forget about them or choose to ignore them. However, if you want to stand out from the crowd, using these techniques to promote your listing is going to really help.

So, without further ado, let’s begin!

3 Ways to Promote Etsy Listings

Etsy Promoted Listing

Ok, wait a second, hear me out. I know a lot of people hate the idea of having to pay to get their product seen BUT we’re not saying you need to do it for every single item – it can be a very good tool to promote certain products around certain times of year or to jump on a trend.

Promoted Listings are like an Etsy ad which gives you an opportunity to showcase your product higher in the search results for better visibility.
Etsy promoted listings are based on an auction system where you have to bid to secure a place in search results, this means the higher you pay (cost per click) the higher placement your listing gets on the search results.
This strategy should be used carefully because mindless ad placements can burn through your budget very quickly So, here are few things to keep in mind,

Start with bidding low and gradually increase your bids once you understand the overall dynamics.
Initially, only promote those items which have a proven sales record.
Continue your campaign for at least 2-3 months, this will help you to have a better judgment on how you should move forward.

Free shipping to promote Etsy

Provide Free Shipping

Free shipping is an evergreen online marketplace promotional technique because it gives a feeling to customers that they are getting something extra.
Moreover, Etsy provides a special tab for free shipping and if you offer a free shipping guarantee, your items that are above £28 (Etsy literature and guides show $35 since its a US company) will have a free shipping badge in search results. This will motivate customers to buy from your store instead of your competitors.

If you are put off the idea of offering free shipping because you feel you’ll lose money then you can always add that cost in your item price.
For instance, if you’re selling a pillow for £30 and the shipping cost is £10 you can add them both and sell at £40 or you can bear the half cost by selling that pillow for £35.

A natural question arises here – why would anyone give an extra £10/£5 if they will see a lower price tag on other listings?
Don’t worry about it because generally, a higher price suggests a higher quality so the customers will think that they are getting a good quality pillow at £40/£35 with free shipping. This makes them feel they are getting a better deal.

Coupons to promote Etsy

Coupons, Special Offers and Sales

Coupon code strategy can never get old. If you’re offering coupon codes or any special offer along with free shipping for your products then it becomes an absolute steal of a deal for your customers!
Here are some ways you can utilize coupon codes to skyrocket your sales,

  • Create exclusive coupons for your regular and repeated customers.
  • Create coupons during peak sales days (Christmas, Black Friday, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s day, etc)
  • Ask your customers to subscribe to your newsletter in order to receive an exclusive coupon code.

Also, you can offer special discounts like a sale or special offer during a particular day or time, etc. just make sure that whatever percentage of discount you provide, your customer should feel that they are getting most out of their purchase.

Hopefully, this has given you a few ideas of strategies to implement in your Etsy marketing strategy!
