Best Fabric Suppliers in the UK

Lockdown has seen us become a nation of crafters – sewing machine sales are up 127%, John Lewis is reporting a big jump in haberdashery sales and places such as The Works and Hobbycraft are seeing more searches hit their sites every day – it really does seem like Coronavirus has created an arts & crafts renaissance!

One problem with starting a new hobby is knowing who to trust to buy supplies from – ideally you’d want to go into a shop to really get a feel (excuse the pun!) for items such as fabric but physical bricks and mortar haberdashers/fabric shops are few and far between nowadays and lockdown has forced us to turn to online shopping for the majority of things we need to buy, so I thought it’d be handy to put together a list of the Best Fabric Suppliers in the UK

Best Fabric Suppliers in the UK

Upholstery Fabric Supplier UK

Yorkshire Fabric Shop is my favourite place to buy upholstery fabric online. I am particularly fond of their printed velvet upholstery fabric as it comes in such beautiful, vibrant designs.

Plush Fabric Supplier UK

‘Plush’ fabric is a buttery soft, fluffy material with a short directional pile (that’s what makes it so cuddly!) that feels like a hug in fabric form. Being so soft means that it’s ideal for making things like baby blankets, toys and even things like cloth nappies. Plush Addict is the best one-stop plush shops online and provides an array of plush fabrics in a rainbow of colours and patterns.
Plush did use to be commonly known as ‘Minky’ fabric but due to a trademark issue it’s no longer allowed to be sold under that name in the UK

Quilting Fabric Supplier UK

CottonPatch.co.uk has an extensive range of quilting and patchworking fabrics in any theme style and colour you could imagine! I’ve built up quite an extensive wishlist over on their site and can’t wait to plan my next patchwork project.

Dressmaking Fabric Supplier UK

Any time I’m looking for dressmaking fabric or a dress pattern I go straight to Minerva Crafts to see what they have in stock. They offer an impressive range of fabric finishes and patterns as well as the co-ordinating haberdashery which saves a lot of time when you want to get started on a project!
